If you’re new to using gas cylinders, knowing how to connect the gas regulators can be confusing. But don’t worry; we’ve put together a handy guide to help you. Connecting your Calor gas bottle is simple when you know how!
How to connect the gas regulator a Propane gas bottle (Red Bottle)
These cylinders have a 27mm valve and should only be used with 27mm regulators
Remove the protective plastic plug from the female valve outlet on the cylinder connection and leave it hanging (to replace later)
Check the bullnose connection on the regulator for any damage
Using the correct size spanner, screw the bullnose connection into the cylinder valve female connection. Make sure the gas bottle connection is tight
When you need gas, turn the valve hand wheel on the cylinder anti clockwise.
How to disconnect a Propane gas bottle (Red Bottle)
Turn the valve hand wheel off (clockwise rotation)
Except for multi-bottle installations with a changeover valve, turn off the gas tap if it’s fitted to the appliance. Wait until the burner and pilot lights have gone out. For installations with a change-over valve, you only need to turn off the empty gas bottle
Never remove the regulator (or connecting nut) with the bottle valve open
Use a spanner to remove the regulator (or connecting nut – left hand thread)
Replace the protective plug into the valve outlet
How to connect a Patio gas bottle (Green Bottle)
Patio gas bottles have a 27mm valve, so they should only be used with 27mm clip-on gas regulators. There’s no protective cap, so make sure the top of the valve is clean and free from debris. The regulator switch should start in the off position (3 o’clock position).
If the gas regulator on/off switch gets stuck when turning the supply on, this means the regulator hasn’t been connected correctly. If this happens, disconnect the regulator and start again.
Place the gas regulators down onto the Patio gas bottle valve and press downwards firmly until you hear the audible ‘click’ indicating that the regulator is in place
To turn the gas on, turn the gas on/off switch a quarter turn anticlockwise to the 'on' position (12 o’clock position)
Always turn the switch to the 'off' position after use
How to disconnect a Patio gas bottle (Green Bottle)
Turn the regulator switch a quarter turn clockwise to the 'off' position
Press the 'push' button on the lower part and lift the regulator from the valve

How to connect a 4.5kg Butane gas bottle (Small Blue Bottle)
This gas bottle takes a regulator that screws on to the valve outlet—both have a connecting nut that features a black sealing washer.
Check the valve hand wheel is off by turning it clockwise and then take off the protective black cap (keep it for future use)
Check the black sealing washer on the regulator for damage before connecting—replace it if it’s faulty
Fit the connecting nut (left hand thread) to the bottle using a suitable spanner; tighten it firmly, but don’t over-tighten it as this can damage the washer. When you need to use gas, turn the valve hand wheel anti-clockwise
How to disconnect a 4.5kg Butane gas bottle (Small Blue Bottle)
Make sure you do not disconnect the regulator (or connecting nut) with the cylinder valve open. Turn the valve hand wheel off (clockwise rotation) and wait until the burner and pilot lights have gone out.
Use a suitable spanner when you disconnect the regulator (left hand thread), then screw the protective black cap back on to the cylinder valve outlet
How to connect 7kg, 12kg and 15kg Butane gas bottles (Larger Blue Bottles)
These cylinders have a 21mm valve and can only be used with 21mm regulators.
To remove the safety cap from cylinder valve make sure that the arrow on the cap is pointing to the gap in the shroud. It can then be removed by pulling the lanyard (plastic tie) out, and then upwards. Avoid using tools for this and just leave the cap hanging.
Check that the black sealing washer is fitted inside the cylinder valve
Make sure the regulator switch is in the disconnect position (3 o’clock position)
Place the regulator down onto the gas bottle valve and press downwards firmly until you hear the audible ‘click’ indicating that the regulator is in place
When you need to use gas, turn the switch anticlockwise to the ‘on’ position
IMPORTANT: If the regulator on/off switch gets stuck when turning the supply on, it means the regulator has not been connected correctly. If this happens, disconnect it and follow the instructions to reconnect it.
How to disconnect 7kg, 12kg and 15kg Butane gas bottles (Larger Blue Bottles)
Turn the regulator switch clockwise to the off position.
Turn the button on the regulator and lift the regulator to remove.
Replace the orange safety cap onto the empty bottle valve.
