London Fields BBQ – Enjoy A BBQ This Summer
When a glorious weekend is forecast, thoughts turn towards outdoor enjoyment. While Londoners have a fantastic amount of green space to enjoy, there are not many places where it is possible to have a barbecue. London Fields in Hackney is an exception. Not only is it permitted and safe to grill food here for a delicious picnic with friends, there is lots going on, making this a marvellous destination for a day out. With a wildflower meadow, an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a paddling pool and playgrounds, there is something for everyone here. The area is lively with lots of arts and crafts, cafes, pubs and clothes and gifts shops.
Broadway Market, just off the edge of the park, is open on Saturdays, showcasing a wonderful array of artisanal fresh produce. Fancy some grass fed marbled Angus beef steak on the BBQ? No problem. With over 80 stalls selling meats, cheeses, fish, fruit, vegetables and cakes you will be able to buy a veritable feast. Don't forget to pack your barbecue equipment before leaving home, and make sure that you have enough calor gas bottles to last you the day. You can get these delivered from London Gases which saves a lot of time and effort. A word of advice: you'll need some bags to carry all that yummy food shopping – Broadway Market does not allow plastic ones.
Nothing works up an appetite quite like swimming, and the Lido at London Fields is a lovely spot to cool down in the Olympic-sized outdoor pool. It's the only floodlit pool in the city and is open wind, rain or shine. The water is heated, so there's no need to worry about getting cold, and there's a sun terrace to dry off on. Combining a swimming session with a BBQ in the park afterwards is a perfect way to while away a summer's day and evening.
When summer inevitably turns to autumn, London Fields keeps on giving with its annual free film festival. There is always something going on in this vibrant district. If you're wondering where to go in London to BBQ in the open air, then London Fields is a top choice.
