Bracken Logs – Is Bracken The Right Fuel For You?
Here at London Gases, we pride ourselves on offering the greatest possible variety of fuels. We offer Calor gas bottles, BBQ gas and conventional solid fuels including logs and coal. However, we also offer newer and less well-known fuels, such as Brackenburn Brackettes. As their name suggests, these brackettes are a biofuel derived from bracken. But is bracken the right fuel for you? In today’s blog, we’ll examine the unique qualities of bracken so that you can make an informed decision.
1. Efficiency
Once it is turned into brackettes, bracken burns more efficiently than many more traditional log types, including oak. Pound for pound, it produces more thermal energy and burns for longer than most conventional logs. In other words, you can keep your home heated for longer without using as much fuel, thereby allowing you reduce your fuel costs. However, it’s worth noting that it isn’t quite as efficient as coal and similar energy-rich fossil fuels. Bracken is ideal if you want a pleasantly woody fuel that’s more efficient than standard logs but don’t need a fuel that’s as efficient as coal. However, if you need the most efficient fuel possible, coal might be a better choice.
2. Environmental friendliness
Bracken grows quickly and is found throughout the UK. As a result, it can be harvested regularly without depleting bracken stocks in the long run. This makes it much more environmentally friendly than coal and most other wood fuels. Harvesting bracken also gives other plant species a chance to take root, thereby encouraging biodiversity across the UK. Only a handful of biofuels are more environmentally sound than bracken, making it a great choice for individuals who are concerned about their carbon footprint.
3. Compatibility
Bracken brackettes can be used in log burners and open fires. However, it might be not suitable for some stoves and other devices that require smaller, less bulky fuels. It’s worth checking your fuel- burning device’s requirements before deciding to invest in bracken.
